Peace and Friendship (A Poem — TW: Death)

Mara Amberly

--

I wrote this poem quite a while ago, after a friend of mine passed away. I just looked at the date on my drive and wow — it’s been almost eight years. It doesn’t feel like it, but time really flies, and life goes on, I suppose.

Peace and Friendship

You died the other day.
I heard it from your sister,
as she kept up with those who waited
online for news.

You deserved many more years;
time with your family, with your children,
opportunities to make your dreams
come true.

I will miss you,
that voice,
in words and thoughts, and actions,
that was uniquely yours; now silenced.

You had more friends
than you might expect.
All remembering the good times and hoping
you would bounce back and live on.

Even though you are gone now,
though I find it hard to process
that this is so,
you will always be my friend.

You still are,
dead or alive, friendship goes beyond
these things, for you
and those who care for you.

This will not change,
with time or circumstance.
The caring will always be there,
and we will wish you happiness.

Thanks for reading my poem. :)
