She Belonged to a Dragon (A Fantasy Poem)

Mara Amberly

--

Dragons possess a rare beauty,
Of shimmering scales and powerful wings.
But that is not all they possess,
For they own people, as well as things.

Amyra was a singer, her hair copper red,
And her voice and temperament sweet.
Destiny brought her to Imel’s cave one day,
Taming a dragon was no small feat.

She would fly on the dragon’s back,
His wings vast, the world far below.
Imel was equal parts monster and loyal friend,
Together, there were many places they would go.

Few people could understand,
Imel’s intelligence and Amyras heroic heart.
Nor that once the dragon possessed her,
Amyra had no wish to be apart.

They say a dragon who avoids sword and spear,
May live forever. Its rider too.
And somewhere out there, on dragon-back,
There’s much they might still see and do.

Thanks for reading my poem. :) I just wrote this one tonight. Stay tuned for more poems and short stories here in the near future.
