Stray Feathers (A Poem)

Mara Amberly

--

I wrote my poem, ‘Stray Feathers,’ several years ago and I thought I’d share it with you here on Medium. :) Like many of my recent poems that I’ve posted here, it was in my collection, Feathers, Dreams and Faerie Wings, which is now out of print.

Stray Feathers

Like falling snow,
only warm to the touch;
soft and light,
fibres drift downward.
Swayed by air currents;
spiralling to their fall,
upon the earthy ground.

She picks them up,
fingers grasping;
mind curious,
as fibres bend.
Some soft,
others firmer.
No sign
of their origin:
the bird who shared,
its stray feathers.

I quite like this one for its simplicity. Thanks for reading it here. :) I plan to post up more poetry again in the near future.

If you enjoyed my poem, you could always sign up for a Medium Membership for $5/month. It would help support me and other Medium authors.
